Prior to sealing a move for Romelu Lukaku, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland will have been a transfer target that would have been considered with great thought.
Of course, the Blues opted for their former player instead and secured a £97.5 million (€115m) deal for the Belgian striker and were instantly rewarded as he was dominant against Arsenal in his debut as he capped off the performance with a goal, which will have been great for bettors who used sportskokladenje24.com to find the best operators with the odds of him doing that.
However, things could have been incredibly different for the west London outfit and Thomas Tuchel if they had decided to splash even more cash on acquiring the forward they were desperate to add this summer.
Whilst Haaland is one of the most exciting players and touted to be the next world superstar within football, with his recent UEFA Men’s Forward of the Year Award following on from his 2020 Golden Boy title, it is always evident that he was going to cost a pretty penny for any club interested in him.
However, add super agent Mino Raiola to the fold and things were instantly going to become even more costly. Be prepared to read about the astronomical sums of money wanted by the agent for his client.
On top of these payments for the Norwegian superstar, the super agent also demanded an incredible £34 million agent’s fee which ultimately deterred Chelsea from pursuing the player further.
It is not a surprise given Raiola’s reputation within football and with his clients, although there will be some that will try and justify what he was asking; although his own demands seem to be extortionary and fo rather than trying to get the best for his client.
Haaland, who is now thought to be available for around £64 million next season due to a release clause in his contract (plus whatever Raiola wants), managed to score 41 goals in 41 games for Dortmund last season and has already started the Bundesliga in the same fashion with two goals in two.
Chelsea, though, will be looking for more from Lukaku this season as he is the man that they have turned to as they look to challenge the likes of Manchester City for the Premier League title, whilst also looking to retain their UEFA Champions League crown after being handed a group that features Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg and Malmo.
