Renato Sanches, a midfielder for Lille, has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis. The 24-year-old arrives at Parc des Princes after three seasons at Stade Pierre Mauroy, where he won the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21.

The Portugal international is the club’s fifth new signing of the summer transfer window.

Sanches is expected to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in PSG’s lineup, with the Dutchman reportedly on the verge of joining Roma on loan.

PSG paid €15 million (£12.5 million/$15 million) for Sanches, which is €10 million more than Lille paid to sign him from Bayern Munich in 2019.

Sanches has agreed to terms with PSG on a five-year contract that will keep him at Parc des Princes until 2027.

The Ligue 1 champions can also extend the agreement for another year.

“I’m really happy to have arrived here in Paris,” the midfielder told PSG’s official website.

“I’m sure that I’ve made the right choice by signing for the club. I chose Paris Saint-Germain because I think that it’s the best project for me. Staying in France was important to me, as I know this league already.

“I’m obviously happy to be joining up with some of my Portuguese compatriots. That could also make my integration easier. I already know Nuno Mendes and Danilo Pereira but not yet Vitinha. I spoke to Nuno before I signed, and he had good things to say about Paris Saint-Germain.”

Sanches is PSG’s fifth summer signing, following Nordi Mukiele, Nuno Mendes, and Vitinha, with Hugo Ekitike also on loan from Reims.

The French champions had long been interested in Sanches, who chose to join Christophe Galtier’s squad over a move to Milan in Serie A.

The arrival of the Portugal international will help ensure that PSG’s midfield remains well stocked, despite reports that Idrissa Gueye will follow Wijnaldum out of the club and return to Everton.

PSG could still strengthen before the transfer deadline, with Galtier reportedly looking for defensive reinforcements.

Inter’s Milan Skriniar has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Presnel Kimpembe, with Chelsea reportedly interested in luring the Frenchman away from Parc des Princes.

Frenkie de Jong has also been linked with PSG, but according to reports, the Barcelona midfielder is more likely to join Manchester United if he leaves Camp Nou this summer.
